Good news! Two of University District’s annual community events are back for 2024! Both the U/D Night Market and Tails & Treasures will be happening again this summer, offering a great way to connect with community members, enjoy local artisans and live entertainment and explore University District. Read on for all the information you need to attend.
U/D will host the fifth annual Tails & Treasures event at the University District Discovery Centre on Sunday, June 16 from 1-5 p.m. This annual Father’s Day event features an array of entertainment and promises fun for the whole family (pups included!).
This year’s Tails & Treasures entertainment will include three Global Pet Foods SuperDogs performances of their new show “Tail Gate Party”, two opportunities to meet the SuperDogs at a “Pat N Chat” and a Community Dog Show. The Community Dog Show is open to the public with awards provided to the top three in each category, including Best Trick and Best Costume. No registration is required to participate, just show up ready!
Additional entertainment includes performances from the popular local four-piece rockabilly band The Manik Men, a Smooch Your Pooch Photo Booth sponsored by Homes by Avi for customized same-day photographs, a Dogs of U/D Polaroid portrait wall that remain in the Discovery Centre for the next month, roaming characters for kids to enjoy and a Pool Party For Dogs, featuring three large pools with floating toys for the dogs to play in and cool off from the summer fun.
Alongside the entertainment, there will be various pet vendor booths to explore. Vendors for this year will include Pawsitive Match, with adoptable dogs and pet supplies for sale and future retailer University District Vet Clinic handing out swag and other pet items. Get ready for the U/D Night Market, happening again this year on the last Wednesday of every month between May and September! From 5-9 p.m., each U/D Night Market will feature over 35 local vendors and offer unique entertainment, including live musical acts like DJ Joash Charles, interactive playshops, roaming performers and variety shows. Our season starts with the May U/D Night Market and will feature amazing entertainment. Visit the market to see performances by award-winning Canadian folk singer Kearstin Pfeifer, one-of-a-kind circus artist Schuyler Snowden’s The Snow Circus Variety Show and Notas de 4, the award-winning six-piece world music ensemble fronted by Mexican flamenco singer and dancer Silvia Temis and featuring the city’s finest world musicians!

Join us in June for performances by the “psychedelic rock band without boundaries or burdens,” The Ashley Hundred, Motivational Magic shows with Steve Harmer and dancing and entertainment with the Chinook Country Line Dancers! And don’t forget to browse and shop the dozens of vendors within the market area.

Experience a perfect summer evening of fun for the whole family at the July Night Market, featuring Safire’s Bubble Show, showcasing incredible bubble displays and entertainment for the entire family. Plus, don’t miss performances by Calgary’s acclaimed vocalist, Kate Stevens, and late-night campfire soul songs from I Am The Mountain.

A send off to summer with unique entertainment featuring Cooking With Igor, a comedy show with a magical twist, a performance by former Canadian Idol contestant Earl Stevenson and a unique show by Sunstokes, combining funk, Latin, metal and R&B influences with a modern rock sound.
September 25, 2024
The final 2024 Night Market will welcome Earl Stevenson back for another great performance, as well as neo-soul funk band, The Rondel Roberts Band, performing throwback tunes, hip-hop drops, blues riffs and bebop licks! Plus, Safire’s Hula Hoop Show is must-see entertainment for the whole family!

A How to Create Watercolour Art event in partnership with STAEDTLER will be happening at Staples Studio on June 5 from 5-7 p.m. This event will teach participants a new way to create a watercolour background using an easy colour transfer technique with STAEDTLER watercolour brush pens. Crystal Creek Homes Builder Launch Event Recap
On May 4, the University District Discovery Centre hosted an event to celebrate the launch of Crystal Creek Homes’ newly announced townhome project, GUILD.
Entertainment at the event included an affogato station in collaboration with University District’s Village Ice Cream and Monogram Coffee and performances by Flamenco guitarist Ricardo Sánchez and flamenco dancer Silvia Temis.
Thank you to everyone who attended this great builder event to take a first look at the newest residential project coming to U/D!
