It’s time for moms, mom’s moms and moms-to-be! Whether yours is visiting from out of town or lives just around the corner, Northwest Calgary is a great place to be this Mother’s Day, especially with Spring in the air!  Spoil the moms in your life at one of these popular brunch spots, with some post-brunch activities to give her the very best treatment on this special day.

1. Cadence Coffee

Located in the heart of Bowness, Cadence Coffee’s sparkling retro-style interior provides a cheerful backdrop for an evolving lineup of sweet and savoury brunch-time creations, The Calgary Northwest gem serves delicious comfort food like French toast slabs to classic brunch favourites like Eggs Florentine to delightful donuts, homemade granola, and signature brunch cocktails. A charming well-loved neighbourhood café located in one of Calgary’s century-old buildings draws large crowds for its beautifully presented menu items with fresh local ingredients prepared from scratch. Even its pastries and sandwich bread are baked daily by their sister company, Alforno Bakery & Café. With live music and outdoor patio seating, Vendome Café proves to be more than your average coffee shop.

Post-brunch activity: After loading up with calories, burn some off with a walk through Northwest Calgary’s vibrant Kensington Village, known for its eclectic shopping. While perusing Kensington’s unique retail shops, stop in at Peacock Boutique, Calgary’s first ever consignment store which opened in 1975, with current owner Michelle Morigeau leading the helm.  Here, you can find trendy jewellery, vintage trinkets and a fashion inventory that will have mom coming back every season, or weekend. 3. John’s Breakfast & Lunch

Looking for a laid-back, no-fuss local Calgary brunch spot? 4. Jamesons Pub

So laid back it’s almost horizontal. Despite its casual feel, this neighbourhood pub in the heart of Brentwood Village Shopping Centre is serving up some delicious classics with a twist that go beyond basic pub fare, like their breakfast poutine, smoked salmon eggs benedict and lemon meringue French toast.

Post-brunch activity: It wouldn’t be Mother’s Day without flowers. Stop in at nearby Petals’ N Bloom, a local, family owned and operated florist serving the Calgary area since 1997. Its chic, beautiful and fragrant arrangements will bring a smile on mom’s face.

5. Bro’Kin Yolk

Started by local brothers, Bro’Kin Yolk is an urban kitchen known for constant innovation and bringing epic breakfast eats to the ‘burbs. Its hip menu includes a rich short-rib duck fat hash, breakfast poutine, and deliciously thick and chewy waffles. The lineups at this breakfast spot are legendary on weekends, so avoid standing in line by calling ahead to get on their wait list.

Post-brunch activity: Make a stop at Color Me Mine Creekside for an afternoon of pottery painting, where you, mom, families and friends can paint your own plate, mug, cartoon character, vase or trinket.  Create beautiful keepsakes together that mom will cherish for years to come.
